AB 350 one of the most far-reaching pieces of legislation to impact the commercial property industry in a long time, will be voted on next week in the Senate Appropriations Committee, and possibly the Senate Floor. After that, this inexpedient bill could be on its way to the governor. The San Francisco Chronicle and the San Francisco Examiner have editorialized that they oppose AB 350.

| Voluntary National Asset Rating Program for Commercial Buildings |
Recently, the Department of Energy (DOE) published a Notice of Request for Information (RFI) on their plans to develop a voluntary National Asset Rating Program for Commercial Buildings (AR Program). The AR Program would establish an Asset Rating system for commercial buildings based on a national standard and would evaluate physical characteristics and as-built energy efficiency of these buildings.

Recently, President Obama signed legislation that would raise the debt ceiling by up to $2.4 trillion in two stages, enough to allow the government to borrow into 2013.
