What is CREATE?
CREATE is a collaboration of BOMA San Francisco, BOMA Oakland/East Bay, IREM San Francisco Bay Area and NAIOP San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, whose focus is to expand and strengthen the commercial real estate workforce. The current and growing talent drought threatens the long-term viability of commercial real estate and its related industries. Funds raised through this event will directly support San Francisco State University’s Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Certificate program and to develop a “job ready” workforce.
Talent Shortage Inspired BOMA San Francisco Foundation’s Mission
A looming talent shortage faces the commercial real estate industry, as Baby Boomers retire from the workforce. Who will manage the increasingly complex commercial buildings that the vibrant Bay Area economy demands? Determined to address this crisis, the BOMA San Francisco Foundation’s mission is to expand and diversify the CRE workforce by recruiting, training and retaining top-quality talent.
Strength Through Partnerships
The BOMA San Francisco Foundation formed a partnership with San Francisco State University in 2012 to provide courses in commercial real estate that will prepare students to enter the workforce. Graduates earn a B.S. in business administration with a concentration in finance and a Certificate in Commercial Real Estate. The Foundation also collaborates with other industry groups including BOMA Oakland/East Bay, IREM San Francisco Bay Area and NAIOP San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, plans to expand to other universities and holds joint events and programs with groups like JUMA Ventures.
Making an Impact
Since its launch, the BOMA Foundation has created job-shadowing programs where students can learn about different aspects of CRE – from finance to property management to marketing to construction – and more. Each summer, companies host SFSU student interns to give them real-life experience. Many CRE program graduates are now working full-time in CRE for employers like CBRE, City and County of San Francisco, Cushman & Wakefield, DTZ, Harsch Investment Properties, JLL, Kilroy Realty Corporation, Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, and the Presidio Trust.

The BOMA San Francisco Foundation is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to addressing the employment and training needs of the commercial real estate industry.
